Little "Duke" caught on camera actually
being still for a second !!!!!

Pictures from Saturday December 3rd, 2011.    It was a very nice day outside Saturday so we decided to let the dogs out in the yard for an extended play.   We knew Sunday was going to be a all day rain fest and everybody would be cabin bound, so we decided to take some outside pictures for the blog.    More to come, so check back often.

Priceville Alabama Dog Show

Ok, we traveled down to Decatur Alabama this week for a big four day show.   We decided that it was going to be too cold to take the camper so we just decided to do the La Quinta thing this time.    We asked for a first floor room but ended up with a second floor (no elevator),  so we had to carry everything up stairs to the room like a couple of ants.   Also, had to make a million trips up and down the stairs x-ing the four dogs that we were showing.     No need to get me a stair master for Christmas Santa.

Anyway, the Priceville show was majors in both dogs and girls all four days.    We carried Brook (even though she's now finished) and kept her as a class dog just in case the count got close.     We wanted to hold the major instead of bumping her up to a Special for everyone else there and also for Mimi's sake.    She only needs one major to finish also.

As for how we did....    Kix didn't get anything again this weekend.     Mimi won Reserve Winners Bitch to a major TWO of the four days.     Sooooo ... close .......
It's like a kick in the stomach.   We so wanted to finish our third dog of 2011.

Oh, well it looks like we're going to knock off  on showing dogs until after the first of the year.     Both us and the dogs need a break.

Stay tuned though,  we're still going to be blogging.    I'm planning on posting some pictures of  the dogs  "just being dogs".    They can be quite entertaining !!!!!!

Saline County AR Dog Show

Ok, we had packed up a few things all week so we could leave as early as possible Friday after work.    We would be driving over to Benton Arkansas to attend the Saline County dog show there.    It was over a four hour drive but it went by quickly and we arrived at our hotel around 10:00.   Not too bad for us.

This show was very small (not majors) so Mimi got to stay home again.   She only needs a major to finish.   Brooklyn however only needs a single point to finish, so we were very pumped up, knowing not to get our hopes up too high.  We know very well about counting chickens before they're hatched.   (Very Well...  )

Well Kix didn't do well this weekend at all.    He got second place in his 12 - 18 mos. class both Saturday and Sunday.

Brooklyn got Reserve Winners Bitch on Saturday (no points -- so close --- dang).   You could hear the wind comming out of our sails.    It kinda killed our hopes for Sunday's show.    Anyway, Brook showed "fairly" well on Sunday, managed to win her Open Class, and after a few tense moments in the Winners ring,  the judge gave her the nod for Winners Bitch !!!

Our mischievous little "Brook" is now Champion  Marric's Brooklyn Magic !!!!

We have been showing 3 or 4 dogs lately and I have been soooo busy slinging leads and brushing ear fringes, that I haven't been able to take my camera to the shows.   Maybe things will slow down a little bit and I'll be able to take some pictures soon.

Ok...  now ... for all of you that had fingers crossed for Brooklyn,  THANK YOU VERY MUCH but your job is  not over.   We still have to root for Mimi in two weeks at Priceville Alabama.    It's four days of majors and we only need just one of them.

What's Happening ???

Well, we have had a couple weedends off from showing dogs.    We've just been hanging around the house kinda working on stuff around the house.   We've had some very good weather too.    We've got a couple shows coming up so it's gonna be back to work for both us and the dogs soon.    Everybody keep their fingers crossed for both Brooklyn and Mimi.

Anyway were just checking in with the old Blogspot just to keep everything up to date.

Oh, here's some updated pictures of Duke.   He got his first puppy shots this weekend.   He's slowed down in the growing department but he's developing quite a rambunctious personality.    He's into everything !!!!    The ears are up ...  Yaay

Kix saves the weekend

We struck out to Nashville right after work Friday afternoon.   We had very early show times both Saturday and Sunday.   We had to show first thing at 8:30 on both days.  It's murder to get up that early and get yourself ready, much less getting show dogs fixed up also.   Anyway, we had a good time none the less staying with some of our very nice dog show friends that also show Papillons.   We had a very nice weekend just hanging out and showing our dogs.   This weeks show was in Owensboro Kentucky which still left us with over an hour and a half drive from Nashville.   We had to get up at 4:00 in the morning to get to the show at 8:30 and still have some time to settle in and get ready to show.    I don't know if it was the early show times or the lack of rest, but our dogs acted like they had never been in a show ring.   They were all a handfull !!!   Kix however, did manage to stand still just long enough to win Winners Dog on Saturday for two points toward his Championship.   Way to go Kix !!!  He has seven points now.   The girls didn't show well enough to get anything.   Those girls better get on the ball or "little brother" is gonna make a come from behind finish on them.

Thanks to our good friends Mary and Jerry for the place to stay and the good fellowship !!!

New Duke Pictures

Last update on Duke, I said that he was 8 oz. During the last weekend when we were at the Tupelo dog show Abby and Duke got to stay at Grandma's house for the weekend. When we came home Sunday we just left them there for an extra day or two since we were all tired. They returned home yesterday after being at Grandma's for four days. WOW ... had he grown !!! This little "toad" is gaining about an ounce a day !! We weighed him last night and he's over 13 ounces and he's not even quite two weeks old yet. Oh, and his eyes are beginning to open.

Tupelo MS Dog Show

KIX Wins !!!!

We attended the Tupelo MS dog show held September 17-18, 2011. We got to camp this time since we finally got the Papillon Motel back in good working order. Lots of our Papillon friends were there also, so we had a very good time just hanging out and showing all of our dogs.

Ok, on to the results. On Saturday Kix took Reserve Winners Dog.
On Sunday Kix won Winners Dog and Best of Winners getting the crossover and added two points to his total. He's up to 5 points now (with one major) so he's doing quite well. So far so good !!!

Tupelo was a small show this year ( no majors ) so Mimi stayed home. She only needs a major to finish. Brooklyn needs only a single (stinking) point. So, we had high hopes that she would finish this weekend. But.... she only took Reserve Winners Bitch on Sunday So.... the chase continues.

Lawood Paps News

Ok, lots of stuff has been happening at Lawood Paps lately. We now have a new puppy !! (after about 24 hours of labor). Abby finally delivered a new little boy (like we need another hard head boy). His "Official" name will be
"Lawood's Midnight Marathon" or "Lawood Abby's Midnight Marathon) and his call name will be "Duke" since we were up all night Friday night watching Abby and also watching an old John Wayne movie marathon on the TV. Puppies tend to name themselves around here. Duke came out very strong and nursing well. He's a chow hound. Duke's a week old now and has doubled his weight (eight ounces) !!!

Pictures to come......... so check back.........

Happy Birthday KIX

Happy Birthday KIX

It's on to the 12 -18 Class for you buddy.

You'll be running with the big dogs !!!

Memphis Toy Dog Show

Well this four day dog show was off to a bad start in the beginning. The lift cable on the Papillon Motel (the pop up camper) ... well ... POPPED. So, we had to go with Plan B on the accomodations for the four day show. ( That would be Motel 6).... :)

Kix won Reserve Winners Dog on both Thursday and Friday and won best papillon puppy in the under 12 mos. Puppy Sweeps competition Thursday and Friday. (He won a whopping $7.80)

Thursday and Friday was not Majors so we did not show Mimi since she only needs one major to finish. Mimi didn't score her major this weekend, so the chase continues for her. She's hasn't been her normal cheerfull self in the ring lately so we decided to bump her up from kennel dog to house dog in an attempt to cheer her up a bit. (Plus she still needs to lose about a pound)

Brooklyn won Winners Bitch on Saturday for a three point major !!! That brings her up to 14 points toward her championship. Way to save the weekend Brooklyn !!! Now we're just chasing one stinking point. (But that's a "good thing")

We really need to hurry up and finish somebody because our girls are all blowing coat like crazy. We're afraid that if it's not soon we'll have to wait till spring.

Not much to report from Sunday.

I can safely say that when we finally got home Sunday afternoon that we were all "Dog Tired".

More Later... Stay Tuned.....

Crab Orchard Kennel Club August 6 and 7

Ok, we attended the Crab Orchard Kennel Club event held on August 6 and 7. We left home right after work on Friday and arrived at the camp grounds at about seven o'clock in the afternoon. We arrived at about the same time as our other dog show friends that were also staying at the same camp ground. We were very happy to have friends staying near us. That always means that we'll have a nice weekend camping, sitting around, having good stuff to eat, and just having fun no matter what happens at the dog show.

The show was majors both days in both dogs and bitches. So everybody had high hopes to put a major on their dogs. (including us) There were tons of nice dogs there.

Kix won Reserve Winners Dog on Saturday. (not too bad for the little guy) (we're kinda proud of him)

Mimi and Brooklynn didn't win anything Saturday or Sunday.

Next stop Southaven MS in a couple weeks. Wish us luck.

Cheyenne

Sad days at Lawood Paps this weekend. We lost "THE" oldest member of our papillon menagerie. Cheyenne had just turned 14 years old.

She was also the smallest of all our dogs, barely 4 pounds soaking wet. Yet, she was the feistiest of all. What she lacked in stature, she more than made up in attitude. She didn't take any crap from anybody and even the puppies learned very quickly to not mess with Cheyenne or Cheyenne's stuff.

She will certainly be missed around here...............

Greater Shelby Kennel Club Dog Show

We attended the Greater Shelby Kennel Club dog show held July 16 and 17th. This one was another show held in Southaven MS, close enough for us to just drive up both days and save on the hotel bills. It was very warm but not as bad as last year's scorcher.

Ok, on to the the results. It was a major in bitches both days so we were excited for Mimi BUT the major broke !!! Mimi only needs one last major to finish her championship and we considered not even taking her to the show, but we decided to show her on Saturday just for giggles. Even though the official major broke, "IF" Mimi were to get winners bitch and go Best of Opposite, then she would still get her major. It was kind of a stretch since she would have to beat a couple of bitch specials to go BOS.

Mimi won Winners Bitch but did not manage to go BOS, so she won two points that she did not need. (Dang) We hated that since she essentially took points away from another dog that might have needed them. Brooke (who could definately use two points) won Reserve Winners Bitch, so we know exactly whose dog that Mimi robbed. (That would be us) Oh, well we essentially shot ourselves in the foot with our own gun. Well you'll never win if you don't roll the dice !!! So the chase continues.

Next stop is Crab Orchard in a couple weeks. See you there. We'll be the ones with the limp.

We didn't show Mimi on Sunday and nobody else did anything on Sunday worth bragging about.

Paducah KY Dog Show June 12th

Well the tree cutters finally came out and cut down the huge oak trees that were hanging over the driveway. We were very glad to not have to drive under those things every day. But that caused us to have to get up Saturday and haul off several trailer loads of brush to the burning pile. We did that Saturday morning until it got soooo hot that we had to quit and do something else (Like wash three dogs for Sunday's dog show) .... :)

We got up very early Sunday and drove to Paducah KY to show three dogs. We left Mimi at home since we knew the judge on Sunday had a preference for smaller dogs. We showed Kix and Brooke and also carried Cruiser along to show as a special to try to "maybe" get some grand champion points for him.

Anyway, Kix showed well and did much better on the table, but he decided to throw in several spins in while in the ring. I suppose he thinks you get extra points for that. NOT !!! Brooke still doesn't travel well in the car and while in the ring it just seemed that she still wasn't feeling well.

So, now that I've made all of my excuses for the day.... :) Kix came out winning Reserve Winners Dog and Brooke won Reserve Winners Bitch. Arrrrgh ... The agony of defeat!!

The next show is in July, so all of us will be getting a little break.

Monday, June 6, 2011

Olive Branch Dog Show

We attended the Olive Branch Kennel Club dog show held June 4th and 5th. It was close enough to home and we had a late enough show time both days that we could just drive up for the shows both days. We only showed two dogs both days. We showed Kix and Brooke on Saturday and showed Kix and Mimi on Sunday.

Kix won his class both days and got to go back in for winners dog, but didn't see any purple ribbons this weekend. He's still a puppy though. His time will come.

Brooke won Winners Bitch and Best Opposite on Saturday for two (2) points. That brings her up to 11 points now.

Way to win Brooke. !!!

Mimi won Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, and Best Opposite on Sunday for two (2) points. That brings her up to 12 points. That means that she's now chasing a single major just like we had to do with Cruiser. (That'll be fun) :(

Way to win Mimi. !!!

Way to go Lawood Girls............

Jackson TN -- Hub City Cluster

Well we took off from work Wednesday thru Friday this week for the four day AKC dog show held in Jackson Tn. This event is a combined event with both the Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association and the Clarksville Tn Kennel Club. We camped on site with friends and although it made for a very long weekend, we certainly had fun seeing everybody.

We were showing three dogs this weekend. We showed Mimi, Brooklyn, and Kix. Mimi and Kix had several class wins and Mimi won Reserve Winners Bitch one day, but it was Brooklyn that really shined this weekend. We've been showing her since she was just a very small puppy and although she's shown very well at times, she hadn't won ANY points toward her championship.

The shows were three point majors in both Dogs and Bitches for all four days.

We were very excited Thursday when Brooke not only won Winners Bitch, but also won best of winners and best opposite, winning her very first points and a three point major win to boot. If the weekend would have ended right there, we would have been ecstatic, but Brooke proceeded to win Winners Bitch / Best of Opposite again on Friday and Saturday also. That's three 3 point majors back to back. Brooke went from Zero to Nine points in one weekend. She also won Reserve Winners Bitch on Sunday.

You know we always try to be "gracious loosers" and "humble winners" but every now and again you just have one of those Woo - Hoo moments and this weekend was certainly one of those.

Soooo.... Way to go Brooklyn !!!!!!

WOO HOOO !!!!

Monday, May 9, 2011

Thursday May 4th after work, we loaded the last bits of our stuff into the car (which was already hitched to the "Papillon Motel" (Our luxurious Pop-up- Camper)) and headed to Gray Summit MO to the new Purina Farms Event Center. This place is brand new and is set up specifically for dog show events. Let me tell you this place is nice, like top notch.

We arrived late Thursday night about 11:00. We were camping next to friends and they helped us set up our camper as quitely as possible since we didn't want to wake up the whole neighborhood.

We had a super good time camping and cooking good stuff to eat and just enjoying our friends. It was a nice weekend.

Now on to the results of the dog show.... Ok, not much to report on Mimi or Brooke. Kix our youngest puppy won his 6 - 9 puppy group two of the three days and on Sunday he won his class, Winners Dog, Best of Winners, and Best of Opposite for a Three Point Major !!! We like to have passed out !!!

WAY TO GO KIX.

Papillon National Specialty 2011

New Champion -- Lawood's Crusin' In Harms Way

(Cruiser)

Cruiser got to go to the Papillon National Specialty to participate in the Parade of Champions. This is for dogs who finished their AKC conformation championships in 2011. They get to parade in the ring solo while a brief synopsis is read about them. Very nice ... Way to go Cruiser !!!

Brooke

Brooke showed very well this week. She finished fourth in the 12 - 18 month old Puppy Sweep and made the cut in the conformation show on Thursday just out of the ribbons.

Way to go Brooke !!!

Kix

This was Kix's first REAL show. He's only barely seven months old. He's been to several shows just to get him used to the hustle and bustle and he's been in one puppy B match but that's about the extent of his ring experience. We were prepared to be happy if he just didn't try to bite the judge!!! Kix did an excellent job. He won first place in his class in puppy sweeps and got to go back in for "best puppy". He didn't get best puppy, but we were thrilled by how well he did. (Plus he won money and paid for our Prime Rib supper that night) and yes we saved him some.

It rains on our Parade .... Again

Well we're at the Papillon National Specialty in Chattanooga TN this week and we're having a super good time when Tuesday we get a call from my sister in law saying that the recent storms has blown down several trees in the yard and two huge oaks are across the drive way. Well Great !!! So we have a big clean up job to look forward to when we get back home.

Now where's my chain saw ?????

Just Checking In

Just Checking in with those of you that might be checking in. We've been laying low since the last dog show, staying home and saving some money. The next thing on our horizon is the Papillon National Specialty April 18 - 22 in Chattanooga TN. National Specialties are always fun. The hotel will be full of JUST Papillons from all over the country. Cruiser gets to strut in the Parade of Champions. We also entered Brooke and Kix. Kix will compete in Puppy Sweeps also. More Later..............

Nashville Dog Show March 10 - 13

For a change we had a short drive to the dog shows this past weekend.

We attended the Nashville Kennel Club / Tullahoma Kennel Club cluster that was held March 10 - 13. We skipped the Thursday show because we didn't think the judge would like our type of dogs. You develop a sixth sense about what these judges like after years of showing dogs. Anyway we entered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All three days were Majors in dogs, so Cruiser had three shots at his much needed second major win. Friday started off bad. The count Friday was barely a major anyway and due to absent dogs the major did not hold. BUMMER !!! We showed Cruiser anyway (just for the practice) and he won reserve winners dog, which was ok with us because he did not need two single points and I'm sure there were other dogs that could. On Saturday Cruiser finished out of the ribbons and didn't even make it out of his Open Class. The Open Class in dogs was huge!! This is not looking good for the Home Team !!

Sunday rolls around and it's bottom of the ninth for Cruiser. He wins first place in the open class...... So far so good..... He goes back in for winners dog (Laura's about to hyperventilate and I can't even watch !!!) All of a sudden Laura's jumping up and down screaming. I finally can stand to look up. Cruiser has won Winners Dog for a three point major !!! Cruiser is FINALLY an AKC Champion !!!

For all of you that had your fingers crossed this weekend..... Thanks.

What's been going on ????

Well let's see ... We traveled down to Camden Arkansas for a dog show last weekend. Not much of anything to report though. We ended up with a fist full of yellow third place ribbons. No points for any of the dogs. Bummer. The only major (in females) broke on Sunday, so it was pointless to even show Cruiser. Mimi could use either the major or a couple points. Brooke still needs her first points. Kix got to show for the first time in a Best Puppy B match. I suppose he's the only one that held up the family honor. He won Best Papillon Puppy and won a Group One in the toy class and got to go back in for Best in Show Puppy. He was showing his little tail off. All of the dogs showed well.

Anyway, the next stop is Franklin TN in two weeks.

We have been fostering a rescued Bishon for about two weeks now. He left this Thursday to go to his new permanent home in Baltimore MD. His new owners seem to be ecstatic about having him. Good for him !!!! One Bishon amongst our flotilla of Papillons..... Talk about standing out in a crowd.

Let's see... what else .... Ohh, we (kindof spur of the moment) ran across a good deal on a SUV (Chevy Trailblazer) that we've both been lusting after for some time. Like I said it was one of those unplanned deals that you just run across. We traded the old 1994 Scooby Van. We'll have some much needed extra room on the dog show trips now.

Stay tuned for Franklin TN Dog Show results.... It's majors Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Cross your fingers for Cruiser.

Lake Saint Louis Dog Show -- Results

We'll the dogs and us made it home from St Louis this weekend. Cruiser won Reserve winners dog both Saturday and Sunday. Mimi won Reserve winners bitch on Saturday. In other words NO POINTS !!! Bummer.Bummer. Bummer ...

The show was held in a horse arena on dirt. (well we'll call it dirt) The whole place reeked.

Outside you could tell that just that much farther north that it had been much colder there. All of the lakes and ponds were frozen over and the ground was frozen. It was warmer on Saturday and the ground had thawed up a little bit by afternoon and had heaved up this clay/mud stuff about 1 inch deep that was the consistency of chocolate puding. It got all over our shoes and stuff. By Sunday afternoon you could tell that it was about to start snowing again and they were predicting another winter storm. We bugged out and headed south before we got stuck in St Louis.

We had a fun trip none the less.

Lake Saint Louis Dog Show

Well we're leaving right after work this Friday to travel north to the first dog show of the 2011 season. We'll be going to Lake Saint Louis MO. We're taking Cruiser, Mimi and Brooke. Kix is going too just for the ride and to get him used to the hustle and bustle of the whole dog show thing. Kix will be old enough to show after the end of February. Can you believe that !!!

Wish us luck. Both Saturday and Sunday is a three point major in Bitches and Mimi needs her second major win. Brooke needs any points that she can get. Also "IF" Cruiser could manage to go Winners Dog and then get Best of Winners he'll score his second major and finally be a FINISHED champion. All fingers and toes crossed.

Stay tuned for the results next week. I'm sure there'll be a story to tell.... :)

Kix (Latest Pics)

Hello all, we woke up to snow on the ground this morning. Not enough to take a snow day from work though. It was just enough to make driving in to work very interesting.

Anyway, here's some new Kix pictures (taken by our good friend Mary). He's growing up fast and changing quite a bit. You'll have to excuse him a little bit, he's entering into that gangly stage where they start to grow some ear fringes and go through what I call the "Phyllis Diller" stage. Can't wait till we can get him into the show ring. He's going to be a hoot.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Hello all

Well we've got Chistmas and New Year's behind us now and it's almost time to start showing dogs again. It won't be long now !!!

We're meeting up with a bunch of our dog show friends this weekend to just eat good food and hang out. We're taking Kix along so he can play with a bunch of other Pap pups his own age. He need's the extra socialization from other dogs and other people since he's from a single pup litter. (can you call a single puppy a litter ???) hmmmm

Anyway, I plan to take my camera (if I still remember how to use it) so check back soon and maybe I'll have those pictures that I've been promising.
